The barrios of Phoenix are known for its
three generations of Mexican American population which have created many
community and political leaders. The culture too has thrived in
tangible ways, businesses of ethnic traditions, bakeries, Mexican food,
fine arts organizations, and others too numerous to mention. As well as folkloric dance,
alternative art spaces, and fine art collections like the Goldstein Luera
Gallery.
The owner of the gallery is a barrio product
himself, Art Luera, whose career echoes the dynamic positive development
of the Latino community. He has been successful in business and always
had love the arts and so began to buy art over the past several decades. .
The artwork was collected by Mr. Luera from artists he admired - some
trained, others self-taught. He also would collected art from travels, and
from non-Latinos whose works intrigued him. It's a collection from
a lover of art and from a barrio success whose commitment to creating a
better community in the barrio means creating a collection of art in the
barrio.
This collection includes many works by
Arizona artist Jim Covarrubias, a chicano/Native American artist responsible for the
development of many cultural projects in the barrios of Phoenix.
Enjoy browsing this collection and please
contact the gallery for sales, commissions, or booking for exhibits.
